Gray Money

You are my Sunshine, my only  Sunshine.  It makes me happy when I wear gray........

Gray has some real negative connotations associated with it.  Whenever I think of gray, I feel a little sad.  Gray skies..... the gray areas of life when you don't have clear answers or a clear path to take.  I couldn't even think of anything in nature that showcases the color gray until my husband took me to Fort Williams in Portland Maine this past friday.  And it was among the rocks that I felt right at home   Silver, however, is like taking the color gray and pimping it out, giving it some bling, shining it up real nice.  But gray, good ol' basic gray, is like cinder blocks, sky scrapers and factories with smoke stacks.  Yet, I love to wear gray.  Not only is it a great compliment color, but this past week, I realized that it was able to stand alone.  Gray Had The Spotlight.
It all started with a desire to have a gray sweater dress.  I don't know, it just dawned on me one day that I had purple, blue, brown striped, tan, magenta, but not gray.  And I wanted one.  So when I went back-to-school shopping with my girls, my daughter actually found it in the sweater section and I loved it.  It was my size, a great price, but it wasn't my day.  That day it was all about the girls.  A week later, I decided I would take an hour for "me" time and went back to the store to see what little treasures were hiding among the clutter and when I finally made it to the sweater department of my favorite thrift store, it was hanging there, waiting for me with a half off tag attached to it.  Woo Hoo! Today was my lucky day.  I mean, sure it was at a lesser price to began with, but a discount is a discount!
After that, it just got better.  My husband had said that he wanted me to buy designer stockings and I rarely will wear them, but I decided to look anyway.  Inside a whole bin of ugly, someone had discarded another dress of gray.  It was a perfect fit too!  I even found a pair of pants that has been the closest I've come to skinny jeans and they're not jeans at all.  You can call them "skinny grays".
It Was a Gray Day.  And for once, I don't mean that in a bad way.  For two dresses and a pair of pants, I only paid $8.50.  As a matter of fact, I think gray is the new color of sunshine.  You should try it! You may like it too.  Set aside your Gray Money today!

The $1.00 T-shirt experiment

I never really celebrated Halloween.  It could have something to do with my mother's home-made costumes made of sheets, old belts, and maybe an occasional sash which meant you were either a shepherd, a disciple or Jesus of the Bible.  Which, if you're a guy, would somehow make sense, yet be awkward  because it was still a dress.  And as a girl, it was always the ugliest dress being paraded around when the other girls were all either a princess, an angel, or witch.  I almost would've preferred being a witch because at least it came with accessories.  A broom and a hat.
But the reason I'm bringing this up is because I've always liked to dress up and Halloween seems to be the ultimate day to express freedom of personality and creativity.  I mean, sure, most women dress up like something off a street corner on that day.  "Yeah, It's Halloween!! I can wear my lingerie to work today and nobody would care!"  It's sad but true, and let me clear this up right now.......THAT WOULD NOT BE ME.  However, there's something about going out of your element and trying something new and fresh, something bold and daring, something FUNKY, and I don't mean that in a smelly way.
For some of you, that might mean green hair or a pair of knee-high rainbow striped socks, or wearing a primary color for the first time in your life instead of those "safe" earth-tones.  I'll be the first to admit, there are days when I want to blend in with the rest of the world.  Back in the day, it was more because I was uncomfortable with who I was.  I didn't like my name, let alone, what I was wearing.  I didn't want to stand out above the crowd, though I did want to fit in the crowd.  Finding ways to be an individual and making my own fashion judgments, regardless of who famous is modeling it or not, seems to be an everyday experiment.

Today, I'm experimenting with a t-shirt.  I'm just a little out of my element on this one.  I don't really like
t-shirts.  They seem so ........ lazy.  Instead of playing dress-up, I was dressing down.  But when I saw this shirt and put it with this skirt, it was an Ahhhh moment.  What made it even better was my black fedora and leggings to pop the style out even more.  I wouldn't say it was cute, or beautiful, it was Funky.  And, I guess, that's all right with me.  Now don't feel bad if t-shirts are the main component of your wardrobe.  IF YOU CAN ROCK IT, DON'T LET MY OPINION STOP IT.

So F.Y.I  1)  Never put your style in a box.
                2)  Be free to try new things.
                3)  Love who you are but don't Limit who you are.
                4)  Don't wait for Halloween to have fun with fashion but keep it (family friendly)
